Lewis
and Cicely Vaughan Wilkes had five children, and many descendents who continued
to exemplify the spirit of St Cyprians in the fields of education, the
church, social services and support for the third world. John Wilkes (J C V Wilkes) became a
schoolmaster at Eton and was Master in House before becoming Warden
(Headmaster) of Dick
Wilkes (R L V Wilkes) entered the Colonial Service and distinguished
himself in various African and Asian countries – culminating in Rosemary (Bud) Wilkes married Bill
Tomlinson (W J
V Tomlinson)
a first class cricketer who joined the staff of St Cyprians in 1924 and was
later Headmaster Marygold Wilkes was married to Robert
Orwin who served in Deryn Wilkes married A A Hurst (Alec)
who was a distinguished authority on sailing and tall ships and the author of
several books including “Marine Art”, “Square Riggers -The
Final Epoch”, “The Call of High Canvas”, “The Music
of Five Oceans”. Some

Vaughan Wilkes (1946-2003) - Fellow and tutor in philosophy at St
Hilda's College, who began the series of contacts behind the
Iron Curtain that led to the foundation of underground universities and
educational networks in Soviet-controlled Eastern Europe Marian

(Marian Carr) (1946-2000) – Secretary of the English Ladies' Golf
Association for 13 years and an outstanding amateur golfer herself Roland Hurst (1949-1991)– University
